Safeguarding for Governors, Trustees and The Board

Meets the requirements of level 1 and Board Training within The Intercollegiate Documents and the requirements of Keeping Children Safe in Education

Duration: 6.5 hours ; Accreditation: 6 CPD

Can be delivered in half a day if Level 1 competed

All Board Members  as well as Governors and Trustees should have Level 1 core competencies in safeguarding & must know the common presenting features of abuse, harm & neglect, & the context in which it presents to staff. In addition, board members should have an understanding of the statutory role of the board in safeguarding inc. partnership arrangements, policies, risks & performance indicators; staff’s roles & responsibilities in safeguarding; & the expectations of regulatory bodies in safeguarding.

Essentially the board will be held accountable for ensuring children & adults at risk in the organisations care receive high quality, evidence-based care & personalised safeguarding. This course covers all the essentials for Board and Trustee member Safeguarding requirements

Course Aim

 

To gain understanding of the safeguarding requirements that an organisation / charity needs to comply with in regard to its governance responsibilities, charity law, company law and other legislation and or regulations.

 

Course Objectives

 

  • To understand your responsibility and duty as a Trustee, Governor or a Board Member within safeguarding.
  • To act in accordance with key statutory and non-statutory guidance and legislation.
  • To have an understanding of the categories of abuse in adults and children.
  • To know what your role is in safeguarding adults and children.
  • How to manage allegations against staff.

  • Demonstrates an awareness & understanding of adult protection & child maltreatment
  • Demonstrates an understanding of appropriate referral mechanisms/arrangements for information sharing inc. mandatory reporting requirements (latter child focused)
  • Demonstrates an understanding of clear lines of accountability & governance within & across organisations for the commissioning & provision of services.
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of gross negligence as it relates to organisational safeguarding activity.
  • Demonstrates an awareness & understanding of effective board level leadership for the organisations safeguarding arrangements.
  • Demonstrates an awareness & understanding of effective arrangements in place for the recruitment & appointment of staff, as well as safe whistleblowing.
  • Demonstrates an awareness & understanding of the need for appropriate safeguarding supervision & support for staff inc. undertaking safeguarding training.
