Why is Curiosity important in the care of vulnerable adults,  children and young people?

Professional curiosity means exploring every possible indicator of abuse or neglect and trying to understand what the life of that child is like on a day-to-day basis their routines, thoughts, feelings and relationships with family members, peers, staff, school, this will help staff to provide person centred care, that can reduce risk and future harm.

  • Vulnerable `adults and Children  rarely tell us directly about abuse or neglect directly – they may be frightened or feel ashamed, they may not understand what is happening or happened to them is abuse or neglect.

  • This can make it difficult for staff to fully identify and understand the abuse experience of the Service Users
