This training enables users to administer oxygen safely and effectively, for service users with breathing difficulties. Delegates will learn how and when to administer oxygen to a casualty and the safety concerns with carrying, storing and administering it.
Course Objectives
On completion of this Oxygen Therapy training course, the learner will understand: -
- what oxygen therapy is,
- The benefits of oxygen therapy
- Identify indications for the use of oxygen.
- The contraindications prohibiting use of oxygen.
- Who would prescribe oxygen therapy,
- The equipment used during oxygen therapy,
- How to administer oxygen therapy, using the required flow rate for the following oxygen delivery devices: (Non re-breather mask and Bag, valve, mask)
- Administer oxygen to a patient in line with agreed ways of working
- The risks of oxygen therapy and the dangers of using compressed gas
- Outline health and safety rules for the: Use, Storage and Handling of oxygen
- How to Carry out operational checks in preparation for use of oxygen therapy equipment
- and how to improve quality of life for service users who are using oxygen equipment.
The course is made up of practical and theoretical sessions and learners are continuously assessed throughout the course.
