  • Covers selected Tier 2 capability learning outcomes from the Core Capabilities Framework.
  • Face-to-face training at your organisation.
  • A 1-day course, which consists of 2 x 3.5-hour sessions: 
    Session 1 – learning disability
    Session 2 – autism.

Delegates need to have completed the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training e-learning within the previous 6 months.

Course Overview

Audience:
Tier 2 is for staff who have direct contact and/or provide care, support or interventions for individuals with a learning disability and/or autistic people.

Duration:
1 full day 

Delivery Method:

  • Co-delivered with Experts by Experience
  • Interactive, scenario-based learning
  • Group discussion and reflective practice

Aim:
To equip staff with the knowledge, skills, and behaviours to deliver safe, person-centred, and legally compliant care


2. Learning Outcomes

By the end of the training, participants will be able to:

  • Define learning disability and autism and understand key differences
  • Recognise health inequalities and diagnostic overshadowing
  • Apply reasonable adjustments in practice
  • Communicate effectively using person-centred approaches
  • Recognise and respond to distress and behaviour as communication
  • Understand legal responsibilities (Mental Capacity, Equality legislation)
  • Work collaboratively with families and carers
  • Reflect on attitudes, values, and professional practice
