This Introduction to Schizophrenia Awareness course develops your understanding of what Schizophrenia is, what causes it and how it can be treated. The course will ensure that you have an in-depth knowledge of how Schizophrenia can manifest itself and various therapies and medications which are useful in controlling symptoms.

Anyone who works with someone that has been diagnosed with Schizophrenia will benefit from this course. This could include mental health workers, care support staff and anyone else working in the care sector.

The Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) approach supports the development of desirable behaviour by meeting the needs of people with mental health challenges through use of a range of behavioural strategies.

Behavioural strategies can include positive reinforcement of desirable behaviour and it focuses on the holistic needs of the person, taking into account social, emotional, physical and psychological needs.

This course teaches staff a range of strategies to help them with communication and enabling people to understand what is going on around them and to manage their emotions in a positive way.
