First Aid for Foster Carers

4.5 hour face to face session which is part of a longer blended learning course to teach first aid skills to foster carers. 

It is designed to meet standard 6.7 of the National Minimum Standards for Fostering Services, which requires all “Foster carers receive sufficient training on health and hygiene issues and first aid, with particular emphasis on health promotion and communicable diseases’.

  • Primary Assessment
  • AVPU scale
  • Recovery Position baby / child / adult

Cardio-Pulmonary resuscitation

  • Infant/baby
  • Child
  • Young person /Adult
  • Safe use of an AED (defibrillator)

Respiratory problems

  • Choking  - Adults and children

Circulatory Problems

  • Wounds and bleeding (minor and severe)
  • Allergic reactions
  • Anaphylaxis and use of Auto Injector

Fractures and use of slings
