The Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) approach supports the development of desirable behaviour by meeting the needs of young people through use of a range of behavioural strategies.
Behavioural strategies can include positive reinforcement of desirable behaviour and it focuses on the holistic needs of a young person, taking into account social, emotional, physical and psychological needs.
These approaches have been used within Children’s services to manage behaviour of young people, which can challenge and is a vital part in the strategy to reduce restrictive practices
This course teaches staff a range of strategies to help them with communication and enabling young people to understand what is going on around them and to manage their emotions in a positive way. The training also teaches delegates to develop individual PBS plans which will improve the wellbeing of the children or young person
This course is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to implement Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) in a children's unit. Participants will learn the principles of PBS, how to assess children's behaviour, and develop individualised support plans that promote positive behaviour while reducing challenging behaviour.
